It didn’t take long before we saw the first blockbuster trade of the 2025 NFL draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars Mortgaged their future to go up from No. 5 to No. 2 in order to land former Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter.
Here’s how the trade broke down:
The Browns get No. 5, 36 (2nd round), 126 (fourth round) and a 2026 first-round pick from the Jaguars.
The Jaguars get No. 2, 104 (4th round) and 200 (6th round) from the Browns.
What this tells us is Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is out of excuses. The Jags have now gone back-to-back years taking an elite receiver in the first round and Hunter, paired with Brian Thomas Jr. puts all the pressure on Lawrence to perform.
This is in addition to the fact that Hunter could also give Jacksonville a starter on defense as well. If the team is forced to decide how to part out his snaps, we have to assume defense will take a backseat to make sure Hunter can give them everything he has on offense.
