Waiting For The Maruti eVX Electric SUV? You’ll Have To Wait Longer

The country’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki, has delayed the launch of its first all-electric vehicle, the eVX. According to a report from Autocar India, the launch of the eVX, which was slated for the end of this year, has now been pushed to early next year, 2025. It has been revealed that the company is facing unexpected delays, which in turn has pushed the launch timeline back by approximately five months.

Maruti Suzuki eVX Launch Delayed

Originally scheduled for a September 2024 debut, the SOP (Start of Production) for the eVX Electric SUV has been postponed. According to reports, production will now begin in February 2025, resulting in a total delay of around five months.

Sources familiar with the matter have revealed the reasons behind the delay, citing challenges related to battery supplies and software issues. Maruti Suzuki is diligently working to address these issues before proceeding with production.

As we already know, the eVX will be produced in India and exported to international markets like Europe and Japan. This recently revealed postponement will also impact plans for exporting vehicles. The eVX is a highly anticipated model, and this delay comes at a time when EVs are already experiencing a temporary slowdown in growth.

One of the major challenges currently faced by Maruti Suzuki, according to sources, is the complexity of software development for EVs. As we are aware, EVs have a very intricate nature of electric powertrains, leading to constant demand for updates and innovation.

Because of this Maruti Suzuki is taking the time to ensure that they launch a glitch-free product. This is why the company has decided to delay the SOP (Start of Production).
