Toyota Rumion MPV: New G AT Variant Launched At Rs. 13 Lakh

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has introduced a new mid-level automatic variant for the Rumion, which is the badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The MPV was originally launched in August 2023, and now the brand has introduced a new automatic transmission variant. This new variant, named G AT, is priced at Rs. 13 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Toyota Rumion G AT is about Rs. 1.40 lakh, more expensive than its manual version, which is the G MT. People interested in buying this new variant can book it from the dealerships or the company’s website with an initial refundable token amount of Rs. 11,000.

Toyota offers the Rumion in three variants: S, G, and V. Earlier, the six-speed automatic transmission was available only in the entry-level S and top-spec V trims. With the launch of this new G AT variant, the automatic transmission option is now available across the lineup.

Under the hood, the Rumion G AT is powered by the same 1.5L four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which delivers about 103 Bhp of peak power and 137 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes paired with either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque converter automatic. Similar to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota also offers the Rumion with a CNG powertrain option. However, in the CNG version, this same engine produces a reduced output of 88 Bhp and 121.5 Nm.

The pure petrol version with manual transmission has a claimed mileage of 20.51 kmpl and the pure petrol automatic version has a slightly low claimed mileage of 20.11 kmpl. On the other hand, the CNG variant, which is only available with manual transmission, has a claimed mileage of 26.11 km/kg.

Tech-wise, there are no differences between the G MT variant and the G AT variant. This mid-spec variant offers key features such as keyless entry with push button start, automatic climate control, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, steering wheel-mounted controls, and dual-tone alloy wheels.

The car comes with multiple safety features as well which includes four airbags, ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, electronic stability control (ESC), a rear parking camera, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

The pricing for the 2024 Toyota Rumion starts at Rs. 10.44 lakh for the base S variant and goes up to Rs. 13.73 lakh for the top-end V AT variant (both prices, ex-showroom). Due to high demand, bookings for the CNG variant were temporarily paused last year but have now resumed.

In the Indian market, the Toyota Rumion competes with rivals such as the Kia Carens, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and its own donor vehicle, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The Rumion is not the first car launched under the Maruti-Toyota partnership.

Toyota has also recently launched the badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx compact SUV coupe, the Toyota Taisor. Other vehicles that are badge-engineered by Toyota are the Urband Cruiser Hyryder (Grand Vitara), Glanza (Baleno) and the Urban Cruiser (now discontinued, Vitara Brezza). On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki sells the badge-engineered version of Toyota Innova Hycross as Maruti Suzuki Invicto through its premium outlet, Nexa.
