Taylor Swift fans across Canada have been more than ecstatic over the past few weeks as the global pop star wraps her record-breaking Eras Tour in the north. Amid the singer’s six concerts in Toronto last month, local street signs were changed and several businesses made adjustments in her honour. Now, that’s continuing out west.
A now-viral video that was posted to TikTok on Friday showed a WestJet employee at the Calgary International Airport giving travellers headed to Vancouver a sweet Swift-inspired boarding announcement. With the tour’s three final shows taking place in the British Columbian city, fliers erupted in cheers as the worker used Swift’s lyrics, song titles and album names in her call.
“Good afternoon, flight 117 with service to Vancouver — where are my Swifties at?” she began in her boarding call. “I knew you were trouble when you walked in, I could see it in your eyes.
“Please take out your boarding pass. We are going to do our boarding calls in Taylor’s Version, you ready?”
Passengers near the gate began chuckling and cheering, clearly ready to kickstart their trip as the employee asked people to take out their boarding passes and “shake it off.”
“Please look at your zone number, it will not be a blank space. … Don’t cause any bad blood by joining our boarding lanes early,” she continued. “If your boarding pass indicates you are in Zone 9, you will need to calm down.”
Her announcement went on to include references of Swift’s songs like “Gorgeous,” “You Belong With Me” and “Breathe,” as well as albums “1989” and “folklore” as she gave the required details to board the afternoon flight.
Fans on social media expressed their support for the employee and how much they wished they were attending one of the Vancouver Eras Tour shows. Some also noted their sadness over how the tour, which began in March 2023, is finally coming to a close.
“The magic this woman has brought to this world,” one person wrote.
“Wait, why am I crying??” another added.
“I’m experiencing serious FOMO,” someone said, referring to the “fear of missing out.”
“Give this woman a raise!” someone else chimed in.
