Tata Safari Facelift Vs Mahindra XUV700 In A Classic Drag Race [Video]

When talking about compact 7-seater SUVs, two popular names that come to the mind are Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. Multiple videos are available on YouTube, comparing the drive and features of both the SUVs but, today, we are going to compare both of these cars head to head in a drag race.

The video has been uploaded by Power on Wheel on YouTube. The cars in the video are top end diesel automatic variants of both the SUVs. Before talking about the race, let’s first understand the engine specifications of the cars.

Tata offers the Safari with a single engine option only, which is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine pumping out 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque. With this engine option, buyers will have a choice to opt for either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Talking about the Mahindra XUV700, unlike Tata Safari Facelift, it is offered with two engine options which include a 2.0-liter mFalcon TGDi petrol engine producing 200 HP and 380 Nm of peak torque and a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine making 185 HP and a 450 Nm of torque. Both the engine options can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

On paper, the Mahindra XUV700 should outperform the Tata Safari Facelift, but drag races highly depend on the skills of the driver and environmental conditions. Now, let’s talk about the races.

The first race starts with the host driving the Tata Safari. Talking about the race conditions, both the SUVs are put into sports mode (Zoom in the XUV700) with air conditioning off. The race starts with the flag drop, and initially, Tata Safari takes the lead. However, the Tata Safari fails to maintain its lead, and soon, the Mahindra XUV700 takes over, winning the first race.

For the second race, conditions are kept the same, but the host is now driving the XUV700. Similar to the first race, the Safari is in the lead initially, but it is soon taken over by the XUV700, which again wins the race. An important point to note is that this time, the XUV700 started late but again won the race.

Concluding the video, the XUV700 outperforms the Safari Facelift as its engine is better in terms of power figures. However, viewers need to understand that the motive of this video is to compare both the SUVs. The video highlights which car will perform better head to head, but it does not mean that Safari is underpowered. Factors such as features, comfort, price, mileage, after-sales service, along with performance should be considered while buying a new car.

If you are planning to buy a 7-seater SUV, you can consider other options in the same segment, such as Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra Scorpio N, Toyota Innova Crysta, Toyota Innova Hycross, Maruti Suzuki Invicto and the upcoming Grand Vitara 7-seater along with its Toyota sibling.
