Report: Former Jacksonville Jaguars' WR Gabe Davis visiting with NFC opponent

Former Jacksonville Jaguars’ wide receiver Gabe Davis is reportedly taking a visit to the San Francisco 49ers.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars’ wide receiver Gabe Davis is taking a visit to the San Francisco 49ers, according to FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz.

Davis had signed a three-year, $39 million deal with $24 million guaranteed during the 2024 offseason. After just one season, the Jaguars and new GM James Gladstone moved on from him.

By releasing Davis with a post-June 1st designation, it allowed the Jaguars to spread his $20.3 million dead cap hit out over the next two seasons.

This year, Davis will leave behind a dead cap hit of $5.7 million in 2025, but also a $14.6 million dead cap hit in 2026, according to Over the Cap.

The decision by the Jaguars to make this move was likely twofold. For one, it allowed them to start the process of getting out of Davis’ hefty contract sooner rather than later.

Also, with Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, Dyami Brown, and Parker Washington, in the best-case scenario, Davis was going to be the fifth receiver on the depth chart, and that’s a big contract to have on the sidelines.

A knee injury would limit Davis’ 2024 season to just 10 games. He finished the year catching 20-of-42 passes for 239 yards at 12.0 yards per catch with two touchdowns.
