Wednesday the Raiders did the important business of hiring a new assistant general manager under GM John Spytek. He is Briant Stark who comes over from the Denver Broncos.
Stark was the Broncos’ director of college scouting, a role he has held the past eight years. In total, Stark spent 13 years in Denver, first as a scout for the West Coast (2012-14), then for the Western Region (2015), and then as a national scout (2016).
Spytek and Stark worked together in Denver, first while Spytek was scout for the Southwest region and after Spytek was promoted to National Scout. Stark was promoted to national scout in 2016 when Spytek left to take the Director of Player Personnel position in Tampa. Now they reunite in Las Vegas.
Prior to his years in Denver, Stark coached in the college ranks including three seasons as OC/QB coach at Yale for three seasons and nine seasons in various coaching positions at San Diego State.
Along with the hiring of Stark as assistant GM, the Raiders also named Johnathon Stigall assistant director of college scouting.
Stigall joins the Raiders after spending the past 11 seasons with the New York Jets. He most recently served as national scout in 2024 after serving three seasons as senior regional scout (2021-23) and eight years as an area scout (2014-2021).
Stigall was a regional scout with the Browns in 2010-13 while Spytek was Director of College Scouting there. So, they too have a connection.
