Mississippi State football lands Eastern Michigan's Max Reese as transfer portal tight end

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State football has landed a second tight end in the transfer portal.

Eastern Michigan’s Max Reese committed to the Bulldogs on April 25. He announced the news with a post on Instagram.

“Flip the script,” he wrote in the caption with a dog emoji.

Reese set career highs last season with 27 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns.

Also on April 25, MSU added a commitment from Chattanooga long snapper Ethan Myers.

Meanwhile, offensive lineman Carson Lee entered the transfer portal after transferring to MSU in the winter from Eastern Michigan.

What Max Reese brings to Mississippi State as Eastern Michigan transfer

Mississippi State coach Jeff Lebby said tight end would be targeted in the transfer portal. MSU has acquired two tight ends in two days with Indiana’s Sam West committing on April 24.

Reese, who was a three-star from Illinois in the 2022 recruiting class, will likely be in the competition for playing time. Bulldogs starting tight end Seydou Traore returns after posting 34 receptions for 361 yards and one touchdown. Second-stringer Justin Ball graduated.

Reese is ranked as a three-star transfer and the No. 43 tight end, according to 247Sports. He’s measured at 6-foot-2, 237 pounds.

Reese is the second Eastern Michigan pass catcher to transfer to Mississippi State for the 2025 season. Wide receiver Markus Allen transferred to MSU in the winter after recording 43 receptions for 651 yards and three touchdowns last season for the Eagles.
