The Mahindra Scorpio is the most popular full-size SUV in India. However, with the recent sales figure release of October, it has been noted that it has managed to outsell each and every mid-size SUV in the country as well. The Scorpio siblings – Scorpio-N and Scorpio Classic combined have beaten the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and all the other compact SUVs in the segment.
Mahindra Scorpio sales: October 2023
First off, before revealing the sales figures of the Mahindra Scorpio, one thing has to be noted. Mahindra has not revealed the individual sales figures of the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N in its tally; rather, it has combined the figures of both models. With this in mind, the total sales figure for October 2023 is 13,578 units. Last year this figure was 7,438 units in October. The YoY sales growth percent is an impressive 83 percent.
Compact SUV sales: October 2023
As mentioned, the Mahindra Scorpio has managed to outsell all the other mid-size SUVs in the country. Now, amongst these SUVs, the best seller was once again the Hyundai Creta which had a total sales of 13,077 units. It registered a sales growth percentage of 10 percent. The next best-selling compact SUV is the Kia Seltos. The sales figure for Seltos in October was 12,362 units. It experienced a YoY growth of 26 percent.
Next up in the segment are the two hybrid SUVs from Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara had a total sales tally of 10,384 units. Meanwhile, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder had total sales of 3,987 units. Apart from them, the German and Czech siblings – Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq had sales of 2,219 units and 2,447 units respectively. The Mahindra Scorpio also dwarfed the sales of Tata Harrier and MG Astor along with Jeep Compass as well. The sales for all of these SUVs were 1,896, 890, and 398 units.
How has Scorpio managed to beat every other SUV?
There are a few different reasons as to why the Mahindra Scorpio was able to outsell all of the other SUVs in the Indian car market. Here are those reasons.
Lots of bookings for the Scorpio-N
The Mahindra Scorpio-N currently has around 1 lakh bookings, and the company is pumping out as many cars as it can. This, in turn, has resulted in the increase of sales figures in the country for this SUV.
Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N numbers mixed
As mentioned above, the company has not released individual sales figures for the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N. The company has clubbed the sales tallies of both SUVs and has presented them.
Multiple options for models, variants, and engines
As the company offers both the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio-N in its lineup, the choices become extensive for customers. There are a number of different variants, engine, and transmission options between the two models so no customer gets turned down, and there is a Scorpio for every type of buyer.
The bigger dimensions and road presence
The Scorpio is especially more popular in India because of its aggressive and macho looks. The SUV has a very bold street presence and it looks apart on the road. This is one of the reasons why it has gained popularity over the mid-size SUV segment cars in general. Not to mention that the name Scorpio in itself has become a brand.
Safety of Scorpio-N
Lastly, the Scorpio-N is also a very safe car. With the increasing demand for safer cars, its size combined with its 5-star global NCAP rating has helped in gaining a ton of popularity.
