LSU baseball walked it off to take game one vs Arkansas on Friday night, but the Tigers left the game with some concerns about ace Kade Anderson, who was pulled from the game in the sixth inning.
After the game, LSU head coach Jay Johnson spoke to the media and helped ease the anxiety surrounding Anderson.
“He’s fine. He’s seen no problem. He threw two pitches 92 miles an hour when we had him throw the extras,” Johnson said.
But Johnson weighed what’s important and opted to be safe, pulling Anderson from the game.
“I made a decision that now isn’t too important for us. He’s probably, in college baseball, the one guy that you can pencil into a big league rotation within 24 months. So this is the right thing to do. I think he’s fine,” Johnson said.
“We’re past the Tommy John thing. So I wasn’t worried about that. It was just like a cramp,” Johnson said.
Anderson’s status for next week is unclear. LSU could decide to give its ace a rest ahead of the SEC and NCAA Tournament’s but it sounds like Anderson is fine and there are no long-term concerns. LSU will have its ace for the postseason run.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday night.
