Indian Govt spending 100s of crores to procure bulletproof luxury cars for G20 summit

The Modi government is all set for the prestigious G20 Summit 2023, scheduled to take place in the heart of New Delhi from September 8 to September 10, 2023. This grand international event will witness the participation of influential leaders from more than 25 countries, including notable figures like Xi Jinping, the President of China, and Joe Biden, the President of the United States.

To ensure the smooth functioning of the summit and accommodate the high-profile attendees, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has taken a crucial decision. During the summit dates, from 8th to 10th September 2023, he has opted to temporarily close down offices, malls, and markets across Delhi. This strategic move aims to enhance security measures and facilitate the movement of the summit’s distinguished guests within central Delhi.

In anticipation of the summit, preparations are in full swing to provide convenient transportation options for the visiting dignitaries. Numerous reports from various media outlets suggest that there is a surging demand for luxury and bulletproof cars to cater to the safety and comfort needs of these esteemed guests. While the demand for such vehicles is on the rise, detailed information regarding the exact number of cars required and their associated costs is yet to be officially confirmed.

In this context, it is speculated that renowned luxury car manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW may contribute armored vehicles to ensure the security and convenience of the summit’s participants. Notably, the Mercedes-Benz S600 Pullman Guard stands out as a remarkable armored vehicle, boasting VR9-level protection. This prestigious luxury sedan is equipped with underbody protection capable of withstanding grenades, rifles, and even land mines. The cost of this bulletproof vehicle in India is approximately Rs 12 crore.

Additionally, the Audi A8 L has made strides in this arena, releasing an updated security version in Russia last year. This well-fortified vehicle features a shielded passenger compartment that can effectively defend against AK-47 bullets, grenades, and cabin-penetrating mines. Certified with VR9 ballistic protection and weighing a substantial 3,875 kg, this secure luxury sedan is available in the Indian market for around Rs 9.15 crore.

An interesting detail to note is that among the G20 member countries, only India, Australia, Japan, South Africa, and the UK are expected to employ right-hand drive (RHD) vehicles for the summit, as reported by various media sources. As New Delhi prepares to host this esteemed international gathering, these proactive measures underscore the paramount importance of security and convenience for the leaders and delegates attending the G20 Summit 2023.
