Apple Agrees to Pay $95M to End Siri Spying Lawsuit

[ad_1]

Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has finally opted to settle the class-action lawsuit that accused the company of eavesdropping users through Siri by paying $95 million. The legal case claimed that Apple activated the virtual assistant Siri without user request and passed the voice recordings to the advertisers.

This explains why we can be presented with the right advertisements we have never searched for. Siri was designed only to provide response to voice commands that begins with Hey Siri and when we intend to use it by pressing the home button or the button. But over time it eavesdropped conversations even when we don’t use it and sent the recorded information to advertisers to serve targeted ads.

However, even after the settlement was agreed and reached, Apple stated that they did not do anything wrong. Each class member who was part of the settlement potentially eligible for up to $20 per Siri-equipped devices up to five devices. Not every iPhone or Siri-enabled device owner will automatically receive the payment; they must be part of the class-action lawsuit to qualify.
