A former Nittany Lion has reportedly found his new home.
On Friday evening, former Penn State football cornerback Jon Mitchell committed to transfer to Georgia Tech, according to a report by On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Mitchell spent just one season wearing the blue and white before entering the portal on Monday. He’s one of three Penn State players to transfer, joining guard JB Nelson and linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson, but is the first to find a new school. Mitchell seemed to confirm the move by reposting the report.
In his lone season in Happy Valley, Mitchell appeared in six games – four in the regular season and two in the postseason – qualifying him for a redshirt year. He joins the Yellow Jackets with four years of eligibility.
Coming out of high school, Mitchell was a 4-star prospect, ranked as the No. 16 cornerback and No. 19 Florida recruit in the 2024 class, per the 247 Sports composite rankings.
Mitchell becomes the second Nittany Lion to head to Atlanta, joining former Penn State defensive tackle Jordan van den Berg, who made the move after the 2023 season and played a significant role for Georgia Tech.
It’s possible Nelson joins him, as he reportedly scheduled a visit to Georgia Tech, along with trips to Virginia Tech, Syracuse and Maryland.
