For the 2024 FleuroStar Contest from Fleuroslsect, five companies have submitted varieties for consideration. The selection with the “highest visual impact at the point of sale” will be recognized as the ‘Winner with the Wow Factor’ during the upcoming FleuroStar Award Ceremony held on the evening of Thursday, June 13, at the partnered FlowerTrials location of Selecta one and Evanthia located in the Westland region of The Netherlands.
The five varieties under consideration for the ‘Winner with the Wow Factor’ award are as follows:
1. Dalina Maxi Starburst Pink (Dahlia coccinea) – Florensis
Dalina Maxi Starburst Pink (Dahlia coccinea) | Florensis
The Dalina Maxi Starburst Pink from Florensis presents a vibrant pink shade on its anemone-shaped flowers. A standout in appearance, this Dahlia coccinea variety is sure to generate sales from looks alone. Additionally, the Dalina Maxi Starburst Pink pairs well with other flower colors and contrasts well with the prominence of green plating in gardens.
2. Hypnotica Candy Corn (Dahlia coccinea) – Dümmen Orange

Buyers should be wary of the dual threat conveyed by the name of this new variety. The Hypnotica Candy Corn from Dümmen Orange is sugary sweet and mesmerizing with its tricolor folds and double flowers colored in shades of red, orange, and yellow. This new Dahlia performs well as a standalone plant or as a centerpiece to draw the eye as part of container combinations.
3. MiniFamous Uno Bakari (Calibrachoa) – Selecta one

Bakari is a Swahili name that means ‘hopeful and promising’. This pairs well with this new Calibrachoa from Selecta one that radiates energy to pair perfectly with warm summer nights. The MiniFamous Uno Bakari features a striking pattern of “yellow flowers playing with orange and red veins” and often even a violet border. This variety works well as a placement for beddings, containers, and hanging baskets, where its color retains its shine throughout the seasons.
4. Painted Love Purple (Petunia x hybrida) – Syngenta Flowers

A striking combination of white and purple announces this new Petunia x hybrida from Syngenta Flowers. Adept at stealing the spotlight, Painted Love Purple is eye-catching while also providing depth to arrangements. Additionally, this variety thrives in both hot and cold climates, allowing for a phenomenal performance no matter its locale.
5. Sunny Klaudia (Osteospermum) – Beekenkamp Plants

This new Osteospermum variety from Beekenkamp Plants continuously flowers throughout its season, offering daily new plays on its vibrant shades of pink and white. Sunny Klaudia begins with the bloom of a white core that soon flourishes with pink, spreading to tinge the petals with a soft glow. Long-lasting and made for summer, this offering’s stunning color palette helps it work for various outside settings for wherever you need a boost.
The FlueroStar contest is annually held during Week 24 of FlowerTrials, with the competing varieties entered by companies involved and displayed across eight contest locations. An independent panel with representatives from across the industry in the fields of marketing, journalism, production, and retail, will choose the ‘Winner with the Wow Factor’.
