Tata Motors, the popular Indian automaker known for making robust cars, is planning to launch four new SUVs in India this year. This new lineup of cars includes two ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) equipped SUVs and two EVs (Electric Vehicles). Now, let’s delve into the details of each launch.
Curvv EV
Featuring a Coupe-SUV design, the Tata Curvv EV will be unique and one of its kind offering in the segment. For those who don’t know, coupe-SUVs have a sloping roofline similar to that of Coupe while maintaining the high ground clearance and practicality of an SUV. Tata Motors has confirmed that the car will be launched in FY24-25. We can expect it to be launched between July and September.
The Curvv EV will be launched in multiple variants including a long range one which can drive up to 500 km in a single charge and a medium range which will offer a slightly lower range. With a starting price expected around Rs. 15 lakh (ex-showroom), it aims to capture on the growing demand for electric vehicles in India.
Harrier EV
The brand will also launch the electric version of its flagship five-seater SUV. Built on the Acti.EV platform, the Harrier EV, could offer a driving range upwards of 500 km on a single charge. The overall design will remain the same as that of the ICE Harrier, with EV-specific changes such as a closed-off grille and aero alloy wheels.
The EV will feature bidirectional charging and DC fast charging support, which adds to both practicality and eco-friendliness. The Harrier EV could be equipped with a big 60 kWh battery pack. In addition to the Harrier EV, Tata will also launch the Safari EV with similar specifications.
Curvv ICE
The Curvv will be launched in both EV and ICE options. The production-ready ICE variant of the Coupe-SUV was showcased at the 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo. Powered by new 1.2 liter turbo petrol and a 1.5 liter diesel engines similar to the ones offered on the Nexon, this SUV will compete directly with popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and others. The design will be similar to that of the Curvv EV, featuring a high stance and sloping roofline.
Punch Facelift
Tata launched the Punch SUV in the Indian market in 2021. Since then, the car has received no facelift. However, the test mules of the same have been spotted multiple times. The brand has confirmed that the facelift version could be launched sometime in 2025.
The facelifted Punch will undergo exterior and interior overhauls in line with Tata’s latest SUV lineup. The design of the facelifted Punch ICE will take inspiration from the Punch EV launched this year. The Tata Punch is a micro SUV that competes with Hyundai Exter, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
With these upcoming launches, Tata Motors aims to strengthen its position in the competitive Indian SUV market across both ICE and EV segments. In addition to these, Tata Motors will also be launching multiple other cars in India.
