If you are planning to buy a new car be it a hatchback or an SUV, you should wait for the cars which are planned to be launched in May, 2024. We are expecting about four new car launches this month in the budget segment. So, without wasting much time, let’s delve into the details of each car.
Next-gen Maruti Swift
Maruti will also launch the much-awaited next-gen Swift in May. To be specific, the all-new Swift will be launched tomorrow. This updated version features multiple exterior changes and a complete interior redesign inspired by the Fronx/Baleno.
The new Swift boasts tech upgrades such as a bigger infotainment screen with connected car features, auto climate control, LED lighting, and stylish alloys. The most significant change is the engine option.
The new-gen Swift will be powered by a 1.2 litre three-cylinder Z series mild hybrid petrol engine instead of the existing 1.2 litre K series engine. Interested people can pre-book the car as the bookings are now open.
The Swift competes with cars such as Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Citroen C3 and Hyundai i20. The car has a huge fan following, and the 4th generation model is expected to be a smash hit, just like the previous iterations.
Tata Altroz Racer
Tata Motors will launch the Altroz Racer to compete with the Hyundai i20 N Line. However, it will be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol which is offered in the Altroz iTurbo. However, in the Altroz Racer, this engine will come with a more performance-oriented tune, producing 120 BHP and 170 Nm.
These power figures are similar to that of the i20 N Line, which is powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 118 BHP and 172 Nm. This sportier version of the hatchback will feature some cosmetic changes such as ‘Racer’ badges, a striking dual-tone paint job, a revamped grille, and sleek 16-inch alloy wheels.
Tata Motors has not tasted success with hot hatchbacks in the past. The Tiago JTP was one of the best hatchbacks Tata has produced in terms of pure performance but the car just didn’t take off in the market. The automaker will be hoping to buck this trend with the Altroz Racer, which will take on the Hyundai i20 N-Line.
Tata Nexon iCNG
Last but not least, we have another launch by Tata, which is the Nexon iCNG. Unveiled earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024, this model is powered by the same dual-cylinder technology seen in the Punch CNG, Tiago CNG, and Tigor CNG.
The Nexon will continue to be powered by the same 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine, but the power figures will witness a drop. Upon launch, it will be the first CNG car in the country to be powered by a turbo-petrol engine.
CNG powered cars are becoming popular in India as availability of this fuel has greatly improved over the past few years. The Nexon iCNG will take on segment leader Maruti Brezza CNG, which recently got a safety boost.
