2024 Hyundai Exter EX: What The Most Affordable Micro SUV Variant Offers [Video]

Hyundai launched the Exter Micro SUV in 2023 in the Indian market to rival Tata Punch, Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, Maruti Suzuki Fronx and the Citroen C3. Standing at 1631 mm, the Exter is the tallest in its segment. The micro SUV is available in seven broad variants, namely EX, EX (O), S, S (O), SX, SX (O), and SX (O) Connect, with EX being the base and SX (O) Connect being the top end. Today, with the help of a YouTube video uploaded by MRD Cars, we will talk about what the base EX model of the Exter offers.

Before diving into the details, let’s talk about the price of the SUV. The prices of the Hyundai Exter start at Rs. 6.13 lakhs ex-showroom and goes up to Rs. 10.28 lakhs ex-showroom.
The host starts the video with the keys of the car. Interestingly, the keys for the Hyundai Exter come with flip functionality and features three buttons for lock/unlock and boot unlock.

At the front, the Exter features an SUV-like fascia with a big matte black grille. The rectangular reflector based halogen headlights are mounted on the bumper. Being the base variant, it does not offer fog lights and DRLs. Notably, there are no chrome elements on the front.

The SUV rides on 14-inch steel rims which are not painted. A black colored body cladding follows all around the car to give it a bulky look. The door handles and ORVMs are not body colored and the indicators are fender mounted.

The rear profile of the car features LED tail lamps, similar to the ones found in top model. Essential features such as rear wiper with washer, defogger and reverse parking camera are missing in this variant. However, it comes equipped with two reverse parking sensors.

The host mentions that the boot space of the car is decent enough, considering its size. The host sits in the second row to show the seating comfort. He mentions that the space is adequate for two people only. The Exter offers power windows for the front windows only. The ORVMs are manually adjustable and foldable. A great addition to this variant is the height-adjustable driver’s seat.

Talking about the amenities, the Exter offers a fully digital instrument cluster that can be controlled by steering-mounted buttons. The base variant of Exter misses out on an infotainment system, steering-mounted multimedia controls, auto AC and premium touches.

Powering the Hyundai Exter is a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. This engine produces 83 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque. A 1.2-litre petrol-CNG option is also available, which delivers a reduced output of 69 PS and 95 Nm. The CNG engine option is not available with the AMT transmission.

Safety features in the Exter include six airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a rear parking camera, and ISOFIX child-seat anchorages.
